“They stalk me wherever I go”, said Becker. “It is like they think I am hiding something. But what could that be? There is nothing to do here except visiting temples and relaxing by the hotel swimming pool.”
The 43-year old divorced father of three says his holiday destination was an obvious choice. Becker asked: “What is the first thing people think of when they hear the word “Thailand”? Temples, of course.”
Becker praised the friendly and helpful people of Pattaya. “Last night I was walking along Beach Road after dark when a tall woman with a deep voice asked me to join her in her private meditation room”, said Becker. “It was an amazing cultural experience. When we were done I gave her a thousand baht just for her time and kindness.”
Later, a tuk-tuk taxi driver took Becker to a house off 2nd Road where employees were praying and offering alms to a spirit house.
“They were so welcoming”, said Becker. “It was a temple dance school of some sort, and they let me dance with them on a stage with metal poles. Then a woman who worked there took me to rest in a room upstairs. She was so concerned about my well-being she refused to leave the room, staying right next to me the whole time. I gave her 2,000 baht, just for her good heart.”German television station ARD will send a documentary about Becker’s temple holiday later this year. The documentary will show Becker’s fresh, unspoiled look at Thailand.
