“I always admired Rambo and watched all the previous films,” Vladimir Putin said at a press conference at the Beverly Hills Hotel this morning. “I am honoured to play the character and will bring all my Russian machismo to the role.”
Putin will be paid 10 million dollars for the part plus percentages of the box office revenue.
Sylvester Stallone had originally wanted to play the part himself, but industry insiders persuaded him that it was time for a change, the sources say. With emerging markets like Russia playing bigger role in global Hollywood movie marketing and Putin already an established brand world-wide, the studio expects the new movie to do well.
As for Putin’s foreign accent, Stallone said that if Arnold Schwarzenegger could get away with it, so can Vladimir Putin.Stallone owns the rights to the novel “Hunter”, which is the basis for the new film. In the movie script Rambo, a troubled veteran from the wars in Chechnya, is hired to hunt down a ferocious beast. The beast is a result of illegal genetic manipulation in a laboratory in Russia. The beast has killed the lab staff and destroyed the facility when Rambo in the shape of Putin is brought in to stop it before it reaches civilization.
Stallone will produce the movie.
“Putin is a natural for the role,” said Stallone. “What he lacks in acting experience he makes up for with stage presence and sheer badass attitude.”
“I will do my own stunts,” said Putin. “I insisted on that in the contract. When you see Rambo hang from under a helicopter or run over a burning bridge in a hail of bullets, that is me doing it for real,” said Putin.
Kremlin watchers say the president can expect a 20% boost in approval ratings when the movie is released.
